The underground construction market is often divided into two sub-segments; civil tunneling and mining and both of these markets are experiencing an unprecedented resurgence. The upturn in mining activity is driven mainly by exponential growth in emerging global economies, while civil tunneling development is pushed by our continuing need to improve and replace aging public infrastructure.

For civil projects, BASF provides the most advanced technology for sprayed concrete, tunnel boring machine applications, anchoring, and waterproofing in underground construction environments.  Innovative products like MASTERSEAL® spray-applied waterproofing membranes are ideal for tunnels even with complex geometry, providing easy and safe spray, fast curing and excellent bond strength.  And products like MEYCO® FIX soil conditioning foams, polymers, tail-sealants and anti-abrasion agents make TBM tunneling more successful, even through highly challenging ground conditions.

For the mining sector, BASF provides innovative solutions for specific requirements using backfillling, anchoring, thin spray-on liners (superskins), shotcrete, and abrasion and protection technologies.  Innovative cablebolt and rock bolt anchoring products, as well as MASTERSEAL liners, assist in ground support under challenging conditions, and state-of-the-art sprayed concrete and concrete admixtures make concrete stronger, more durable and longer lasting.

And as a total systems provider, BASF also supplies the MEYCO line of sprayed concrete equipment.  Our offering includes dry and wet spray machines, state-of-the-art spraying manipulator booms, fully equipped and modular spraying mobiles, tailor-made equipment for TBMs, and accelerator dosing pumps and concrete testing units.
