Rheomac® UW 450

It has been reported by the Federal Highway Administration that about 86% of U.S. bridges are built over waterways and that most bridge failures occur underwater. Making repairs underwater poses a challenge to the contractor for various reasons, including the need to minimize washout of cement and fines during concrete placement.

Washout of cement when concrete is placed underwater can be highly toxic to aquatic life because of the potential increase in pH, or alkalinity, of the water. Rheomac UW 450 admixture reduces washout of cement and fines, ensuring underwater concrete does not pose a potential danger to aquatic life.

Why it’s a sustainable technology

  • Rheomac UW 450 anti-washout admixture significantly reduces washout of cement and fines, creating stronger, longer-lasting concrete
  • Reduces environmental impact of cement washout, including impact on aquatic life

How it works

  • Uses robust cellulose-based chemistry to resist washout
  • Used in combination with specific high-range water reducers to increase slump; air-entrainers, and other performance-enhancing admixtures for durability
